As Pompeo said yesterday, Russia will interfere again in 2018 midterm elections. The United States cannot turn a blind eye. The bipartisan DETER Act sends a powerful message to Russia or any hostile actor: if you attack American elections, you will face severe consequences.
This is a moment when either the senate and congress get demoted from lawmakers to an advisory board of an authoritarian ruler, or Trump will be forced to follow the law. So much is at stake.

Turning a blind eye seems to be Congress's specialty during this last year. It's be nice if someone could stop Trump from continuing to desecrate the principles of American democracy.
It's empty rhetoric and an empty threat for as long as it goes unenforced.
Sadly, that sounds a lot like telling the Russians we're going to impose sanctions because the House and Senate voted by a combined margin of 615-7 to do so. They appear to be quaking in their boots.
