Thank you! I am a tax return preparer. THAT is one of worst tax laws I see. Murders, rapist, and so on are eligible for the American Opportunity Credit. Any drug related felony, no.

Did you ever know about the CLEP tests. Close to two years of transferable college credit just for taking the various tests for a few $. Can be done on the person's own income no need for public support. So anyone can afford college.
