China is not stealing anything. American and European corporations bring their trade secrets on silver platter and train Chinese workers in exchange for cut costs; as well as access to Chinese market more recently. That's capitalism and free markets.
There's agreement that we need to stop China from stealing our trade secrets—but there are smart and dumb ways to do that. It makes no sense to impose trade penalties on our allies when we're trying to rally their support to confront China’s unfair practices. We're not an island.
