Um, this is incorrect. How do you not even know your job description? I was taught it in middle school, but let me help you out. Your job is not to protect the rule of law, that’s for the judiciary branch. Your job is to draft legislation and create laws. This isn’t tough stuff.

Respectfully, the Senator has it quite right, and good for him; it's even in his oath of office. Congress writes laws, the courts interpret them as needed, but all federal officials -- all -- are expected to protect and defend the law. One wonders why some of them do not.
