New from the @FBI: I just found out that the software vendor who maintains portions of the Maryland State Board of Elections voter registration platform was acquired in 2015 by a venture capitalist owned by a Russian oligarch.

With four months until the midterms, that has to change. We must pass the bipartisan DETER Act to send a powerful message to any foreign actor seeking to disrupt our elections: if you attack American candidates, campaigns, or voting infrastructure, you will face consequences.

His bill includes automatic sanctions for propaganda campaigns and email hacking (in addition to state election databases). Paper ballots are needed (PAVE Act) but don’t help with what Van Hollen’s bill covers

Please tell us what is planned to change vendors and keep voting in Maryland safe? I also registered to vote in MD when I moved back last year. This was a process done via the DMV when I got my license and registered my vehicle. Is that information safe?

That's all well and good re: foreign involvement, but what about the
#PaveAct, S.3049? Gives voters the access to paper ballots in EVERY STATE and requires risk-limiting audits in all Federal elections.#voterintegrity -
That’s great - his bill covers different stuff PAVE doesn’t - hacking of voter databases, hacking of campaign email, social media propaganda
