Back in 2017, I was supposed to have a job and it fell through the day before Thanksgiving. A startup in downtown Detroit bailed on me at the absolute last minute. I got the phone call sitting on the couch during Max's nap so it was in the afternoon on that Wednesday before.

With no job heading into the holiday season here in the US, I felt like an absolute loser. I had let a lot of people down it felt. But, I knew this Kubernetes thing and they were having a conference and everyone was going to be there. I needed to get there.

Cold e-mail out of the blue from me to CNCF staff explaining the situation. They flew me down to Kubecon, put me in a hotel, & gave me a ticket so I could job hunt. I talked to so many people about a job. Julie had a miscarriage during this time too.https://twitter.com/ChrisShort/status/944427207828615168 …

I applied to be a CNCF Ambassador and it felt like I was almost immediately accepted. I was able to job hunt with the Ambassador title. I ended up working with
@botchagalupe. Now I'm on the Red Hat@openshift team. My family is happy and healthy. I'm happy and healthier.Show this thread - End of conversation

I left IBM after 7 years and joined the Linux Foundation as employee 34. I loved the people that I worked with, and I felt the work we were doing was important. The job did not last long, but I still have appreciation for their role and the experience I gained.

I am not at all surprised to hear they helped you out in a time of need. That was the right thing to do and it’s great they have the autonomy and ability to make those kind of choices.
