One of my great grandmothers came through Ellis Island. My other immigrant ancestors predated it.

You may want to look up how the Chinese, Italians, Irish Catholics, and any other non white-protestant was treated back then. It definitely wasnt "welcomed with open arms".

And we didn't tear children from their loved ones, deny them soap, clean water and food.

Where was he located? We had amazing stoneworkers (and masons!) here in Maine.

Down South, you just walked off the boat and kept going. and at Ellis, unless you looked sick, the process took a couple of hours. We can go back to that if you all want.

Appreciate the sentiment, but Chinese were excluded by law and imprisoned for years at Angel Island. Jews, Italians, Irish faces discrimination. Anti-immigrant feeling has a long history in the US.
