Thanks for confirming your hatred of the first amendment Chris. You do realize this is not what Democracy looks like, don't you?

Hey bucko, the first amendment has no bearing on what a private company can do with people on their platforms. Especially when Alex Jones says libelous stuff on a daily basis.
-
Libelous stuff on a daily basis?! Then what about CNN, MSNBC, Daily News & HuffPo?? They’ve been spreading libelous stuff on a daily basis for two years now!! But I guess it’s ok when it’s directed at conservatives, who are all racists & fascists according to them!

No Chris, Alex Jones is an idiot with a garbage content video channel full of tin foil hat conspiracy theory crap, and has a boatload of nutty followers who have now had everything he's been saying suddenly legitimized by the Corporate "Big Brother" Censorship...
-
The problem with "Our Democracy" is not Alex Jones and InfoWars, but rather the fact that "Our Government" is no longer seen as trustworthy by so many Americans, and indeed it is not. We have a "Bought and Paid For Corporatist or Fascist Government Unresponsive to the People."
-
Our "Corporate Media" bombards us with a never ending stream of easily recognized "Propaganda and Lies" feeding us everything from "Fake Democratic Elections," to the latest "Fake News About the Next Country We Need to go to War with."
-
You are "Part of the Problem" Chris, your own CoSponsored Portman Murphy Legislation legitimized a lets smother their brand of propaganda with our brand of propaganda campaign in an environment where the people are just fed up with a propaganda diet...
-
We have a wonderful tool in the internet which considering it was developed with our tax dollars should be a "Regulated Public Utility" which has been handed over to the "Corporate Search Engine and Social Media Monopolies" to massage the information available to us....
-
The people are fed up and there is a revolution coming. In the words of JFK, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable." We are fed up with "Our Fascist Government" handing our wealth over to a few, we want healthcare as a right....
-
We want police who "Protect and Serve" rather than "Endanger Our Lives With Any Interaction." We want a military that protects us from threats, rather than create instability, and assist in the corporate theft of the resources of sovereign nations, extending US Imperialism...
-
We want an election process that is at least as democratic as the elections in Venezuela. Which oh yea, brings us to the 2016 election... What do you call that bullshit in the Democratic Primary? An election decided before the first ballot was cast...

The "survival" of "our" "democracy" depends on MORE CENSORSHIP?? "We" have a Constitutional Republic, and FREE SPEECH is ENSHRINED in our LAWS. YOU are a hate-spouting domestic enemy, from which our Constitution PROTECTS us.

Hang on a minute. I’m from the UK, so have no knowledge of
@ChrisMurphyCT other than his recent tweet, but do you realise how ridiculous what you are writing sounds to anyone at all detached from your poisonous echo chamber? 1/2 -
From what I can gather, C.Murphy is protesting about the vile rhetoric which pours out of
#AlexJones in his#Infowars broadcasts & articles. Free speech should be protected, I agree, but the freedom shouldn’t extend to people deliberately lying to stir up hatred & violence. 2/2 -
Inconveniently, free speech is meant to cover opinions we think are false (who is the arbitrator of truth, me? You?). What if the MSM and Senators like Murphy are lying and covering up the truth together? I don’t know anything about Alex Jones but I defend his rights.
-
If you don’t know anything about Alex Jones, it’s perhaps not wise to support his right to say absolutely anything he chooses. After all, as Jonathan Swift said (1710) “Falsehood flies, and the Truth comes limping after it”. Lying for fame & effect doesn’t require our protection.
-
@viv_cooper Our constitution gives us the freedom to say anything we please. That is a protected right even if we don't agree with what he is saying. Laws protect us from public speakers lying about them but they first have to prove what was said was a lie, intent to harm. -
That is all well and fine, and I absolutely agree with the right to free speech. We have the right to free speech in the UK too. However, this freedom cannot be an excuse to cause harm or spread hatred, so our laws prohibit hate crime and hate speech. Free speech is not absolute.
-
The reason we don't (yet) legislate against "hate speech," is because it requires an arbiter. Majority rule ("democracy") could say: We think Christianity is hate speech. Suddenly 49% of us are criminals for stating our beliefs. But fortunately, we're a Republic, NOT a democracy.
