It would take much longer than a 30-second ad to explain all the many ways that Trump's economy isn't working for everyone. From my discussion with on

In the 2012 Iowa caucuses, it took more than two weeks to declare the winner on the Republican side.

Iowa serves a key purpose: reminding us we must have paper records. Despite a coding error that caused partial reporting (a problem caught before results were released) “the party has been able to verify the vote counts thru required paper documentation.”

My new column on and what's happened to politics as I once knew it: I used to cover Republicans who are cowering to Trump. I don't recognize them now. via

Just in time for (but you know Trump won't talk about this): "U.S. farm bankruptcy rates jumped 20% in 2019 - to an eight-year high - as financial woes in the U.S. agricultural economy continued in spite of massive federal bail-out funding"

Takeaway: We must vote in record numbers. Will there be problems, like Iowa? Maybe. But elections are local. Engage with officials & demand transparency. Don’t give up & let them keep you from voting. Your vote matters or they wouldn’t be trying so hard to keep you from it.

Recall that one of the pieces of Russian propaganda that Trump embraced most openly in 2016 was that the election was rigged and that he suggested he might not concede if he lost.

Folks, you haven't seen anything yet. The Republican sham trial has emboldened the corrupter.

  14. My take on Iowa "quality control": The fate of our democracy hinges on beating Trump and whoever wins Iowa may be the person to face Trump. So we can afford to wait a little bit of time to make sure the results are correct.

Donald Trump’s disrespect for the flag would be shocking behavior for any other public figure. A city councilman would be driven from office. A country music star would lose her following. A preacher would lose his congregation. But what of this president?

  16. Flashback: in 2016, set out to find the most demographically representative state. It's Illinois Rankings of the four early states: Nevada (12th) Iowa (16th); SC (32nd); NH (49th) (Big caveat: lots of demographic changes in past 4 years)

the problem with attacking every other candidate and your followers going nuclear in social media shows up after the realignment. In other words, you wind up alienating people you'd otherwise need

  18. Got sent some early WH talking points: The theme is "Great American Comeback," despite weaker job and economic growth now than under Obama Surrogates are told to describe the speech as "visionary" and "inspiring" - which are pretty much the opposite of any Trump speech.

history A) Last 3 Democratic winners have become the nominee: Kerry, Obama, Clinton B) Last 3 Republican winners haven't: Huckabee, Santorum, Cruz My guess: Iowa won't give a clear sense this year of the nominee, and both parties need to re-examine why it's first
