Wonder if @System76 will be following suit. Love to see firmware updates for my Gazelle 8 shipped like þis (assuming þey still support it)

We're working on automated firmware updates. They'll be here by 17.10.
-
That's great, thanks for the info

Interesting! Does the system use a dell package repository for this?
-
It gets it from http://fwupd.org , which
@hughsient wrote to give all hw vendors and distros a common place to go for it. -
In my case an apt repo would be better, but it's a nice start, thanks!
-
Well, distros could certainly package the firmware blobs, but it leads to downloading a big pile of stuff that's mostly irrelevant to you.
-
(or it will, anyway, once we get more vendors and more systems on board.)

News to me! I was running Arch on my XPS13. Had to install Win10 to update my BT and USBC drivers even though it shipped with Ubuntu.
-
You need to install fwupd and fwupdate but even then I've never been able to get this to work. I'm probably doing something wrong...
-
What's gone wrong for you? I wrote fwupdate, so genuinely curious how I can improve this experience.

It should work now; gnome-software was not being compiled with firmware update support: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/54567?string=gnome-software&project=5&search_name=&type%5B0%5D=&sev%5B0%5D=&pri%5B0%5D=&due%5B0%5D=&reported%5B0%5D=&cat%5B0%5D=33&status%5B0%5D=&percent%5B0%5D=&opened=jjardon&dev=&closed=&duedatefrom=&duedateto=&changedfrom=&changedto=&openedfrom=&openedto=&closedfrom=&closedto= …

Does it include fix for Skylake HT bug?
-
That's cpu microcode, not system firmware. Which just means the update is in a different thing. On RH distros it's in intel-mucrocode IIRC.
-
Well, not an ubuntu person myself, but I don't think he's right, and other distros have non firmware based fix AIUI.

DELL it's doing but not for everything, to update the USB-C to HDMI/VGA/Eth adaptor you still need Windows
-
We're working on being able to flash all the things from Linux.
@superm1_mario has TBT test payloads on GitHub. Dock updates coming soon! -
We're leading our component vendors to support flashing from Linux but that's about as much as I can comment on now.
