Just did a really phenomenal mis-click, deleting my pinned tweet that had hundreds of very kind replies from you all and which introduced a thread of Oklahoma clips I'm proud of from my several years at KWGS and contributions to NPR. Here they are again!

Striking Connecticut workers will demonstrate outside ’s Hartford residence early tomorrow morning, setting up a “Lamont-ade stand” (a bit strained but I’ll allow the pun). The union says Lamont is the main obstacle to getting the funding they need.

A 11-year-old boy, who’s Black, called 911 Police came to his house & shot him. “His words were, ‘Why did he shoot me? What did I do?’” his mom said. There’s body-worn camera footage But police won’t release it. They won’t even show it to the family.

I’ve yet to encounter anything like the dozens of Okla flacks who collect gov’t salaries to do nothing but troll the press on Twitter all day and blackball media orgs for critical reporting on their bosses, which only demonstrates the contempt they have for their own constituents

I’ve only been covering CT two months & I’ve had some ~minor~ hassles with just one or two flacks, but it does wonders for both my personal mental health & the functioning of democracy to now be in a state with by-and-large large professional public servants staffing comms roles

I can only imagine the whiplash you must be feeling from your last press team.

Now I’m not a fan of a lot of what the Post does but a reporter knocking on someone’s door is not “stalking” and if a reporter knocks on your door and you come out and put a machete to their neck and chase them onto the street with the machete, yeah you’re gonna get arrested

“We are not able to get to $200 million,” Speaker told reporters. 1199 Prez Rob Baril scoffed. "They’ve got to get us something and they haven’t gotten us shit, they haven't committed to shit, so there's nothing to talk about."

Three years ago today I started a two-week furlough at KWGS, so I threw the dog and a stack of books in the van, turned my phone completely off, and spent the whole time driving to every corner of Oklahoma. Weird circumstances but pretty tranquil.

Subject-matter beats are great but for me you can’t beat general assignment. Today I got to ride a ferry a bunch, meet striking group home workers on multiple picket lines, then get told politely but firmly to leave an elected’s office at the Capitol. A real ~melange~

Keith Hernandez on the SNY Mets broadcast just accurately quoted the market price of an ounce of gold with no prep and truly startling speed

Just popped over to the picket line at Oak Hill in Hartford. I asked one striking caregiver what she’s asking for. “A living fucking wage,” she said.

Good hazy morning from Rocky Hill, Connecticut. The Glastonbury ferry — the oldest continuously running ferry in the US — got up and running for the season earlier this month. I’ll be riding along with the captain and talking to passengers for the first trips of the day.

Out here at the union hall in Hartford ahead of a strike called for tomorrow by 1,700+ care providers at group homes for the developmentally disabled. Pres. Rob Baril says the state of CT should be ashamed & embarrassed that the workers make “poverty-level wages.”
