My daughters school tried to tell students if they walked out they wouldn’t be allowed back in. I told my daughter to take a stand and walk out... I also called the local media to let them know what was going on. The school eventually allowed the students back in

Hi
@YaYaOrWhatever, I'm a reporter@phillydotcom. We're covering how schools reacted to the walkout. Which school was this? -
Wyomissing HS. Last week the principal Dr. Jones held an assembly saying no one was allowed to walk out but should wear orange to show support. Students walked out today and teachers blocked the doors to get back in but the students were eventually let back in.
-
That is utterly absurd. Students CHOSE to come back to school to learn, of their own voluntary accord, and teachers tried to stop them??????? It was a miracle in my first high school if anyone actually came to class.pic.twitter.com/w9CNuBFZWz
-
There was someone talking about how all the teachers were blocking the doors and refusing to let the students out... So not only did these students not get to exercise their first amendment right but the teachers were also not doing their jobs TEACHING
-
This was in Bucks County. The district (Council Rock) said the tables were used to take attendance as students walked back in; not to block the students from walking out.
-
Oh sorry I wasnt talking about the school in the above mentioned posts simply talking about what another student said happened at their school else where I find it ridiculous that so many schools were trying to stop or deter students from standing up for something they believe in
-
Had run out of characters to use, the student posted about it on one of the tweets from
@schoolwalkoutUS

And you wonder why other countries are ahead of us in education.

Teachers in the US aren’t interested in education, they’re only interested in politicizing their own views. How about we keep politics out of our school system!
-
How about we pay the teachers what they’re worth..
-
They make, on average, around $57,000 for 9 months of work. Please do tell how that’s not enough when the rest of the country normally works all 12 months.
-
You should ask peer Ts around your age what they make instead of looking at large. Theres no encouragement for young people to get into teaching. Dealing with
#ignorant folks saying we only work 9m a year who dont understand our 60 hr work weeks or summer obligations doesnt help. -
I know too many teachers that don’t come anywhere near 60 hours a week and do almost nothing the 3 months they don’t teach. Taking what you do and applying to all doesn’t work.
-
I believe you lumped us all in a category with your original statement, correct me if I'm wrong?
-
You are correct. My statement did unintentionally lump all teachers in one category. I am well aware that there are teachers that put in more hours than they are paid for

Restricting guns hasn't stopped anyone in Australia owning one but it has reduced mass shootings to zero. Give it everything you've got America and keep fighting
-
Australia issued a mandatory firearm buyback. Only professional shooters can obtain a license for a rifle, and you must be a member of a target pistol club to own a handgun. Mass shootings have gone down, but every other type of violent crime has gone up. http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats%5Cabs@.nsf/0/DA3DED213BAE8114CA257178001B6949?Opendocument …
-
You don't have to be a professional shooter to own a rifle in Australia, you can just join a hunting club.
-
You're right. You have to be a member of a target shooting club OR a hunter and you have to prove it. However, self defense is not a valid reason to obtain a firearm license in Australia, even if you're background is clean, which is what I take issue with.
-
I agree with ya there. If someone has no criminal record, is mentally sound, and passes a firearms test, I have no issue with them having a firearm at home as means of protection.
