Respectfully disagree. We w/the ability to speak up should do so for those who can not & not shame/judge them for being unable

"Can't" and "won't" aren't the same thing.
-
There are very valid reasons people "choose" not to speak up. You can't paint the situation w/a wide brush. Its not b&w
-
Note he said "choose." If you see a wrong and choose to do nothing, you silently advocate its continuance.
-
Again, respectfully disagree for above reasons, but have a good evening.
-
Civil discourse IS possible on Twitter. A good evening to you as well.
-
I have so much respect for both of you right now. That was such a beautiful example of respectful discourse
-
Sometimes ppl disagree. That's life. Respect for each other should still come first. That's my belief.

and shame on him who sits in judgement on others.
-
eh, I'm in trouble in that case! ;) - J
-
who is this jerk?
-
what jerk? Chris Evans? He's an actor - he plays Captain America. I agree with him that speaking out is important now. - J
-
fine but I dont agree with sitting in judgement on those who dont. Individuals have their own histories and its up to them
-
just a heads up- in every case of genocide in the world there were many people who didn't speak up...

I think Push was a seriously underrated addition to the super hero film genre. I apologize for my silence all these years, Cap.

I get the sentiment here, but there are many things I don’t speak up about for fear of losing my life. Literally.
-
so I read this as being shamed. It’s not that I’m standing by doing nothing, I just don’t wield the same power you do.
-
remember that for people who are less fortunate, 'repercussions' can (and do) often include horrific injustice. Fight for us.
-
This is a really good point. I wish his tweet had been more precise.
-
yeah. I've had a police officer say he didn't believe me about an abuser because I didn't "choose" to come forward earlier.
-
so it was rather jarring to read that statement. Better wording would have helped
-
But you're absolutely right that the way he said it was also hurtful and problematic
-
I just figured that If I had that reaction, others probably did too. And I could at least say my piece in solidarity. :)
