  2. Well done Daily Mail, The Sun, and BBC journalists for walking out of a No 10 briefing today when government sources banned journalists from less friendly outlets. "Sinister" is the word being used by many to describe the attack on press freedom. Add "frightening".

  3. Joining the EEC didn't result in UK losing fishing rights. The 'relative stability' allocation of fishing quotas between nations simply reflects the reality of the shared situation in the 1970s.

  4. As fisheries negotiations begin remember that there has never been a time when Europeans didn't fish in what are now called British waters. I bet even the Vikings dragged a net behind their long boats when they paid us a visit.

  5. On second thoughts, maybe Boris will agree that close alignment isn't that bad after all.

  6. Boris doesn't want close alignment, so goodbye to the EU Blood Directive, which provides for blood transfusion sharing between EU countries. Brexiteers obviously believe British blood is superior to foreigners' blood so we can do without, even in emergencies. Will people die?

That's it. Done. UK has left the EU team, running away like cowards from shaping the future of our continent. Self-centred, narrow-minded, xenophobic liars have won. And we have gained nothing. I am ashamed to be British.

  9. The gulf between Remain and Leave is huge. We regard the EU as a family that shares our principles and aspirations. Leavers so often think of it as a hostile body that delights in forcing the UK to act against its wishes - a belief utterly divorced from reality.

  10. No parliamentary days left before Brexit. Final clear up taking place in Brussels office. Final clear up also in Stockport office. keys get handed back at end off day. Touch of gallows humour around both places.

  11. Some MEPs have stayed in Brussels to the bitter end. But the week has been tearful enough. I've come home to the North West, sick at heart. Brexit isn't 'taking back control', it's Britain running away from shaping the future of our continent.

  12. Last vote in the European Parliament by British MEPs is actually on a resolution regarding measures to close the gender pay gap. Carried at 12.07 hours on Thursday 30 January 493-82.

  13. Last parliamentary day before Brexit. And it's normal business. Very last vote for British MEPs is likely to be on having common mobile phone chargers. Is UK really wanting not to have regulatory alignment on that! Brexit is mad and stupid.

  14. So the Withdrawal Deal has been approved. By far the most emotional session I have ever experienced in the Parliament. A family being torn apart. So many hugs. So many tears.

  15. Final meeting of the Renew Group meeting before Brexit. Colleagues have just risen to sing Auld Lang Syne. Tears flowing again.

  16. A new recruit to the cause of sustainable fisheries campaigning (haven't seen one of these fish in ages) - with Delara Burkhardt of the S&D group.

  17. And I'm crying, tears running down. Time I wwnt to my flat and got some sleep.

  18. It's past midnight. I'm walking through a silent European Parliament. I remember doing the same in the House of Commons in 1997. Very different buildings but you can keep London, I love this place where people of 28 nations come together. I shall miss it hugely.

  19. The point is that some (most?) MEPs believe in the EU and will do the work till the bitter end - when Britain runs away from the future of our continent.

  20. 2 parliamentary to Brexit. I am chairing a meeting on hydrogen from natural gas using CCS to store the CO2, and an event on EU oceans strategy. We have to stop the destruction of life in our seas .
