.@Comu @CatholicLeague all marriage is man made. Religions have their own concept and that's ok. But law decides what marriage is.

@ChrisCuomo BS! Marriage is higher than law; it is a sacrament. You as a supposed "Catholic" should no that.

.@mpejko the us is governed by law. That is what unites us. U follow ur faith as is allowed under law. But leave judgment of others to law

@ChrisCuomo @mpejko Christian marriage originated in biblical texts. Much law is derived from faith, so law respects faith (1st Amend).

@FreeBeeCee who can and can't marry is not up to religion but up to the law. U get that right? Live ur faith just don't put it on others

@ChrisCuomo Study the origins of English law Chris. Why a 1st Amendment? Why Bibles and solemn oaths in courts?

@ChrisCuomo @CatholicLeague - Marriage is not man made. Man codified it in order to make rights clear, but state/man did not define love.

@MJ_Collinz @CatholicLeague supposedly love is not a requirement of marriage...however...it started as a civil construct

    4. Collinz ‏@MJ_Collinz 27 Feb 2014

@ChrisCuomo @CatholicLeague - That's my point. The state doesn't require love, but love preceded man's law, as did marriage.

@MJ_Collinz when and how was marriage created, do you think?

@ChrisCuomo - God joins in matrimony before man recognizes it. Do you believe man made marriage law first, and THEN people started marrying?

@MJ_Collinz @ChrisCuomo Marriage has always been a legal construct that served the interest of addressing property rights.

@ChrisCuomo @Comu @CatholicLeague Chirs you are correct! Many people look at marriage from a religious standpoint only and not the law view

@ChrisCuomo @Comu @CatholicLeague why is govt involved in marriages to begin with? Should just hand out legal partnership forms.

@ChrisCuomo @Comu @CatholicLeague isn't there a line between marriage and matrimony? Marriage being law, matrimony with the religious tones?
