Gloomy at Mansands, B-w Teal feeding busily this morning. Photo 3 shows the same bird on 7th Nov. Some change! 2 Great Crested Grebe on sea & a Ringed Plover over the sea - put up from the beach by a dog.

Not had a chance to do much astro sketching lately, but did stumble across these photos - that I'd forgotten I'd taken - from a night at the telescope last year. Bottom right panel is the (scanned & flipped) finished sketch, which you can also see here:

on January 30th. The first image of the new Mars apparition. Syrtis Major is nicely on view with a bright Hellas basin to the south. The Martian atmosphere is clear and free of dust - i sincerely hope it stays that way this time around!

Homero Gómez González spent years trying to protect the monarch butterfly from loggers and criminal groups in Michoacán. His body was just discovered in a well. 😞

A simple, yet effective, message from the States. A message that applies to Europe, Africa, Asia...let’s love cats 🐈, but keep them indoors or with a leash as we do with dogs 🐕 They will be healthier and our planet 🌍 fauna more diverse 🦋

One of the two Siberian Chiffchaffs (Phylloscopus collybita tristis) at Broadsands. A very flighty bird but faithful to one particular scrubby area on the marsh.

Blue winged Teal at Man Sands this morning. Showed very well feeding for about an hour before heading off for a snooze. Turning into a beautiful dapper duck!

Here Here. They kill so much wildlife & one poor lady I know has had to cease feeding her birds in her garden due to so many Cats. They crap everywhere. Wish I could shoot them!

And to stress I’m not against cats, but I am against cats being allowed to crap in my garden and eat the wild birds. Cat owners should clean up the crap the same way that responsible dog owners do! But no-one has volunteered.

yep I agree, my garden is a wild oasis in a sea of concrete gardens, that makes it the cat toilet for the street and I darent even think of feeding birds!why should I have to suffer because others dont keep their cats indoors?

In cold weather, animals are attracted to the warmth of a car engine-always check before you drive off 😬

A look at the iridescent colours of ammolite for . This biogenic gemstone was formed when the aragonite shell of this Placenticeras ammonite was preserved in layers of sediment. These animals became extinct, along with the dinosaurs, around 66 million years ago.
