26 years ago, a gunman entered Dunblane Primary School in Scotland, killing 16 kids and a teacher. The UK govt responded by enacting tight gun control legislation. In the 9400+ days since, there have been a total of 0 school shootings in the UK. #Uvalde

You may well ask: "Were there mass school shootings BEFORE Dunblane?" Answer: No. But, the fact that UK government took action after one event shows what I consider to be decisive action. Gun control clearly made it less likely to happen again...and that's the whole point.

I’m no political scientist, but if you have 12 “key speakers” at your convention, and 6 of them have the same last name as the leader, your party might just be floating into North Korean territory.

Usual bullshit from my fellow Americans about stabbings in the UK. I hate to break it to people, but the US has a higher per capita homicide rate with knives than England & Wales. In addition to a gun homicide rate that's 90x higher than England & Wales.

I’ve lived in the US, UK, Turkey and Sweden. I can promise you, Swedes are the least worried about someone burning their flag. If Turkish protesters wanted to get Swedes mad, they should have made a video of themselves not sorting bottles and cans from their trash for recycling.

Biden's lead in Arizona is currently 19,348. The Navajo Nation vote in Apache, Navajo & Coconino counties in AZ -- the three that overlap the Navajo Nation -- voted 97% for Joe Biden: 73,954 votes to 2,010 for Trump. That's Biden +71,944. More than 3 times Biden's current lead.

In Sweden abortions have been available on demand (up to 18th week) since 1974. In '75 there were 20.3 abortions per 1000 women. In 2018 it was 19.2. Number been almost same for 40+ years. Idea that easier access makes women treat it like a "contraceptive" is misogynist bullshit.

Of course people from #Norway would love to move to a country where people are far more likely to be shot, live in poverty, get no healthcare because they’re poor, get no paid parental leave or subsidized daycare and see fewer women in political power. #Shithole

One of these people got 8 months in prison for occupying the US Capitol after a violent clash with police where the building was stormed. The other got 5 years in prison for mistakenly voting while she was on parole (and vote wasn’t even counted). Try and guess which is which.

1) Sweden's Corona Commission, put together by the Swedish govt to evaluate national response to COVID outbreak, came out with a new report. It contradicted a great deal of bullshit spread by people outside of Sweden. Here are some of the key findings, and they aren't flattering.

I live in Sweden. Abortions on demand since 1974. Also paid parental/maternity leave, subsidized daycare, subsidized pre-/after-school care, paid days off to care for sick kids. Sweden has more "family values" in its national little finger than all of US conservatism combined.

The person who wrote this is currently the Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Finland. She admitted it, yet refuses to resign. This is what mainstreaming racism in politics looks like. It’s social cancer.

1) As a US citizen in Sweden, I’m disturbed when I see the US right push the “Swedish model” for dealing with COVID19. It’s an utterly cynical, disingenuous position that goes far beyond the question of lockdowns and masks, and highlights what’s rotten at the core of US society.

Here in Sweden it’s now illegal to ask for milk at restaurants because radical feminists decided that milk is a sign of patriarchy. So people are ordering coffee without milk and then taking it across the border to Norway to have milk put in. I blame Critical Race Theory!

Massive anti-racism protest in Berlin today, with hundreds of thousands marching. For all the media coverage of far-right populists and their motivations, there needs to be more coverage of the huge number of people who resist the call of hate, and to ask what motivates them.

It’s repulsive to see UK politicians and pundits who openly encouraged hate against kneeling #Eng players now claim to be outraged by the racism against them. They questioned the motives of the players. They belittled their efforts. They normalised the hate. This is the result.

When this picture was taken, women in the UK couldn’t get a mortgage, loan or credit card without a male co-signer, couldn’t get an abortion, could be legally discriminated against at work, and could (for another 30 years) legally be refused service in pubs. So, yeah. “Freedom.”

You don't think the willingness to invade Iraq/Afghanistan and kill hundreds of thousands of Iraqis -- cheered by the media and with little public resistance -- didn't reflect broad anti-Muslim sentiment? Sentiment cynically leveraged by Bush to get approval for the invasion?
