Hows your furby-coding going?
-
Welp,
@tsmith helped me debug some node, and now I've got a client running that's letting me send some actions/commands to it, but Ty is meditating now and has asked me to stop for a couple mins. I guess Furby's high pitched voice isn't "zen"?

Sounds fun, I'd be interested to see what you come up with.

Omg, I didn’t even know reprogramming furbies was a thing! My freshman year roommate had one and I became obsessed with how creepy they were, I bought one for myself at the time, and should be in a box somewhere. I up’d the ante on creepy (for it or maybe me) by skinning it

There's an amazing Bay Area artist who does taxidermy of them! I'm using a Furby Connect (that uses Bluetooth), but most of the early generation Furbz use infrared.pic.twitter.com/ROAts3ZtVC

The program I'm using for most of it is already open source, but yes! Plan on making all my related apps/whatnot for it OS as well!

Wow! Can't wait to see how this turns out. What kinds of things will you be reprogramming it to do?

a little surprised you didn't already have a furby tbh
-
haha- my old one is probably somewhere in my dad's house. Had to get one of the fancy new Bluetooth ones for the project. However, I do have an old Teddy Ruxpin at home that I now want to fuck with now that you mention it...

Interested in this as well. As I bought a giant furby a while back and never got around to messing with it. Can we share notes on this

? -
I'm mostly playing with the Bluetooth features, but you can only do that with the Furby Connect! So it depends on what generation of Furby you have

wait there's a node SDK for furbies?
-
npm install furby
-
The new ones have an open Bluetooth connection, and someone built an API to fuck with it
