Month two of @HuffPost Opinion is almost done. This month we published: 63% women, inc. trans women; 53% writers of colour.

Our goals for this month were: less than 50% white authors (check!), Asian representation that matches or exceeds the US population (check!), more trans and non-binary authors (check, but I want to do better).

We also wanted to raise Latinx representation to match or exceed the US population. We didn't achieve that goal, but we're moving firmly in the right direction.

Making the improvements we made took work, no doubt about it. We all tapped our networks and made moves to expand our collective rolodex.

I check our numbers at the end of every week, because it's easy to lose track or imagine you're doing better than you really are, and the numbers don't lie.

(The numbers also don't tell the whole story -- about disability, geography, socioeconomics and more).

But the work is not onerous and it's definitely not impossible. If we can do it, every other opinion page can do it, too.

I sincerely hope that one day you learn why this is wrong. I hope in that moment you actually have the capability to reconcile with yourself, cause if you don't it will tear you apart. Good luck with your career, try not to sacrifice everything for it.

Also: Singling out people based on "race" is NOT moving "in the right direction". You should never discriminate based on skin color. It is 2018. How can you not know this?

If you go my Latin countries calling us Latinx, people will laugh of you, make fun of you, offend you or will get offended, get mad, some can be very gressive. We are LATINOS!!! Latinos covers ALL OF US, women, men, LGBT+, our pets, etc. DO NOT DEFORM OUR BEAUTIFUL LANGUAGE.

That's because there is no such thing as latinx. It's Latino and always will be. Sorry it's just how things work. Like blue for boys and pink for girls. It's not offensive unless you want to make it that way.

Wow, you’re pretty obsessed with the race of people. I don’t care what color or persuasion a person is. I’m more concerned with their character and abilities. You discount a person when you recognize them based on race or gender. Try ignoring race and look at talent. Might help.pic.twitter.com/bG2sW647v6
