We violate it in little ways by refusing to conform to flesh attached roles rules and regulations, we violate it in behavioural differences from the expected norms, we violate it psychologically refusing its model into our world and we violate it with our bodies which we mutate.

We often rely far too often on intersex people as a metaphor to argue from. It's uncomfortable to really sit with our own violation of these fundamental systems society is built on.

We try to find ways to shape ourselves to look like we fit in other ways, we bend illegally into binary moulds the other side that fit us better in order to make a peaceful life for ourselves, to carve out niches where we can survive. But even these violate the core of gender.

What happens however is faced with the reality of trans people, people classified as one sex who look, act, live as and integrate as another, (and a whole lot of even more complex violations of the simple, universal, immutable triad) conservative society nevertheless...

This insight isn't super novel but it does yield a pair of obvious strategies for liberation: 1) fight to uproot the aspects of society that ingrain sex division as a necessary feature 2) fight to complicate, contextualise and mutate the borderlands of sex/gender.

Also, there aren't many trans people, so most folk don't know anyone.

yes, this is something I've been thinking about - I think most people know or are acquainted with a gay or bi person, but very few know a trans person personally which I think makes it easy for people to say what they say, they don't have to imagine it being said to their friend
