I was going to transition either way. I would have taken a severely shortened life for it. Thankfully we see many trans folks living into senior years but the leap of faith involved nearly 20 years ago never really concerned me even slightly given the issues I had with dysphoria.

Back in the 1960s and 70s trans women were talking Diethyl Stilbestrol (which gives you cancer!) in droves. Lots died, but the number of trans folks transitioning medically only increased since then, despite not knowing if new things like that are around the corner for many years

Attempts at prohibition and discouragement are no substitute for harm reduction, serious research and support into ways to transition safely. The Roman emperor Heliogabalus infamously offered to sell the empire for anyone who could help her transition effectively.

One way to tell who is just anti trans is to see how many angles they come at trans people from. I often see the holy trinity of puberty blockers, sport and bathrooms.

The topics are going to change over time, as focus groups will find that some antitrans ideas do not sell anymore, and try out new ones.
