There's an almost standard narrative for doctrinaire GC transphobes and it's: * Extremely traumatic experiences with men * Recently left, maybe still being stalked * Found refuge in/via feminism * Recovering from indoctrination * Using trans ppl as a safe target to lash out at.

Several Ex-GCs I've talked to have talked about their experiences of having triggering experiences played on and pushed like buttons to elicit more manipulatable emotions in this way. Some have talked about their religious or cult upbringing and how this made them vulnerable.

I'm not just saying trans women aren't men (we aren't), I'm saying that many of the experiences you take out on us happened specifically within a cisgender heterosexual patriarchal family context endorsed by a social apparatus we aren't even equally a party to.

PS, yes I know and have known for years the freedom program is pretty TERFy, but if it helps people out of abusive situations I really don't care. I know afab people who it didn't help because they were queer or GNC/trans, so be wary of that.

If you've got an alternative that's designed to help people put heterosexual domestic violence in the context of patriarchy I'm all ears but I'm not super fussed about whatever it takes for people to break free from abusers.
