Setting the bar for mutualism breakdown research. Beautiful paper from the including 85 rhizobia isolates, 700 km transect, 10 host populations = two types of mutualism breakdown. Incredible.

The vast majority of Americans wanted the United States Senate to produce new evidence and firsthand witnesses. Yesterday, the Republican-controlled Senate blocked them—ensuring this will not be a fair trial.

Inspired by a talk by during , PhD candidate took a deep dive into marine biology. Her new story covers a recent study that recreated a key step of the origin of life—at hydrothermal vents deep in the ocean.

Just catching up on the host-microbiome coevolution literature and want to make sure that anyone who reads this: (much of which I really like!) also read this: and remember, this is an old field, and let's not ignore the groundwork!

I see a lot of negative tweets about journal editors and AEs being slow, etc... I just want to remind everyone (especially junior folks) that most of them/us are doing this unpaid as service, and it’s hard! Reviewers are late, most say no, and we aren’t experts in everything!

This & this thread! Also if you are a publishing scientist, then you should do your fair share of reviewing...I have handled papers for authors who have turned my review requests down multiple times!

The lab environment in which microbes are cultured is very different from their source habitat, the eco-evo aspects of microbial life in nature need to be considered when optimizing bacteria for applications! Me & discuss this in a review out today.
