They want to remain in the CU initially but leave later. Given the desire to leave later, the EU will require the backstop. Given the backstop is the current sticking point, ask them why parliament would accept their approach?

UK would be committing itself to EFTA-EEA membership (requires 12 months notification to leave). Backstop is there, but becomes less significant as UK govt. would be committing to EU/EFTA supply safeguards & not trying to deviate from it like those advocating for WTO-rules.

Problem here is 'common market 2.0', like May's deal, is just another real version of Brexit that only a minority of the population wants. It's as bad to impose this as to impose May's deal. More chasing unicorns.
