This deal hasn't been so much about making things better as preventing things from getting sharply worse. A week ago, the UN released data explaining that around 250,000 people were starving to death and the loss of the port would have increased that number significantly. 4/5

The hope is that if the port becomes a demilitarized zone, allowing trade to flow into it more freely, lowering prices in local markets and helping people with the hunger crisis. 5/5
