I live in Ireland and am a private patient. Last year I had eye surgery without insurance and it was 70 euro. I can't fathom why it's so expensive in the states.

Also as a private patient without insurance my medication for an illness is 18 euro a month. According to my MD, who went to med school in Massachusetts, the same drugs are over 400 dollars a month there

Your govt haggles over the drug price with the pharmaceutical company; our govt is by law not allowed to do so and must pay whatever the manufacturer feels like charging.

How horrible. So people with long term illnesses can end up in debt? Our health care system is FAR from perfect believe me (long wait times, overcrowding etc). But the idea that your illness could bankrupt you is disgusting
