Ha, I remember making just that point to an inquisitive elderly passerby during the last big anti-neoliberal-trade march in NYC in Jan 2002… we need to rectify the labels and insist on them annoyingly

This is a matter of epistemology. The global military empire of bases, special forces, etc. is invisible to most Americans and assumed to be right and normal by those who do know, as is permanent war, so that any retreat from this is easily criticized as pathological.
