How would you differentiate the Ellsberg/Pentagon Papers leaks from the 2011 WikiLeaks publications of Afghanistan and Iraq War logs, diplomatic cables and the Collateral Murder video?
-
-
-
I don't. I think Wikileaks did a great thing there.
-
I think that Assange appeared to have a political/personal agenda during the election because of his hatred of Hillary (and maybe hope that Trump would help him)
-
He called picking Trump or Clinton like deciding between cholera & gonorrhea. I don’t think he liked either candidate (and neither did I).

would ellsberg's actions have been any less moral had those ends not been achieved?
-
No they would not have been--efficacy of leaks, however measured, is not what I'm getting at
-
difference between "efficacy" and "substantive end"?
-
hrc campaign launched a new morality, where the ethics of any given action are judged solely on whether or not it helped her campaign. imo it was incoherent throughout the election and remains so.

Journalism is about presenting truth. If presenting truth has a side-effect of electing a bad person (by revealing corruption in the campaign of the "good person"), the lesson shouldn't be to hide corruption. It should be to only support clean, non-corrupt, & genuine politicians.

Also, if one could prove that Snowden's disclosures and the reporting he enabled ended up helping elect Trump (because much of it reflected poorly on Obama), would that impugn or malign Snowden's leaks?
-
For me, no, the leaks' merit should be judged on content alone
-
-
How are we to judge the merits of Snowden's leak when only 2-5.9% have been released? Ellsberg actually lost papers, Snowden didn't
-
"would that impugn or malign Snowden's leaks?" is an impossible questions to answer at this point.
-
Between those ridiculous PropOrNot & Donovan stories WaPo needs to bask in Ellsberg's limelight and Bezos can afford it.

Both informed the public, thousands and thousands of people made their OWN decisions regarding the leaks. Clinton served in office, we had the right to know HOW she served!

So leaks are only good when they help your preferred crooked Oligarch candidate
