Any plan to "counter violent extremism" that takes no account of US violence abroad is worthless. #CVEsummit #CVEspeakout

Typical is this
@BrennanCenter report on domestic radicalization, with zero mention of US foreign policy: http://www.brennancenter.org/content/resource/rethinking_radicalization/ … -
Part of this stems from the old intellectual folk-belief that "tout comprendre, c'est tout pardonner." This is squeamish garbage.

Understanding of our opponents and their motivations is an asset but among US policy elites it's often treated like a contaminant, a stigma.

@ChMadar If we retreated to Fortress America and dragged all elements of our "decedent culture" with us, jihadis would find new hobbies? -
@PaulWDrake You sound like one of these hysterics who thinks a return to "isolationism" is imminent. Also: decadent, not "decedent" -
@ChMadar I'm simply asking a ?. If we disappeared, would jihadis find new employment? BTW, thanks, I'll pass the grammar help to spell check -
@PaulWDrake "If we disappeared…" Had we not made war in Iraq or Libya, there would be no ISIS there. -
@ChMadar If ISIS would attack Syria for being a secular dictatorship, who says Saddam wouldn't have attracted the same sort of attacks?
