Taking a machete to US healthcare costs and universalizing coverage are perfectly compatible goals. Problem is more political than economic.
-
@ChMadar enormous percentage of those costs are facilities (hospital) and nursing care. Universalizing only inc and shifts $ to taxes -
@ThePursuit7 but taxes are a cost tabulated by the World Bank in measuring the total costs of Germany, Australia, Canada's healthcare.

@ChMadar why is one ambulance ride with the Berlin firefighters < 400 € while one with the FDNY > 1100 $ ? -
@vonneudeck Because you poor unfortunate Germans are deprived of our "free market" system! Don't worry, you're in my prayers. -
@ChMadar No jokes, why does the one cost so much more? What makes it so expensive in NYC and so cheap in Berlin. Is it garages-rents? -
@vonneudeck I think you'll find NYC ambulance & healthcare costs only somewhat higher than in small towns w/ low rents… -
@vonneudeck …and even in a US small town w/ low overhead costs, an ambulance trip is going to cost more than in Hamburg or München. -
@vonneudeck We have huge amount of labor expended on pvt-sector bureaucracies–health insurance firm, HMOs–that add no value, at great cost.
