Our intelligence community whiffed on collapse of USSR, 9/11, Iraqi WMD. Why do so many overestimate intel's importance to security?
@Yaneznaiu Where they have been wrong, their reports have inflamed bad policy. Where they've been right (Vietnam), they have been ignored.

@ChMadar would it be more accurate to say they are a key tool, but one often misused by administrations for own aims? -
@Yaneznaiu If a tool's main use is misuse, it may not be so key. -
@ChMadar yes but we can ultimately make that argument over anything, paper money, army, etc. Main responsibility lies w/ administration.

@ChMadar@Yaneznaiu Few in intel were correct on Vietnam. State Dept INR consistently but ignored. DIA & mils were wrong but authoritative.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
