@ZaidJilani this is my prob when it comes to countries. you can't justify boycotting israel & not the US on principled grounds
@EamonMurphy1 @ZaidJilani I'd say mass education is the goal of BDS, not a prerequisite.

@ChMadar@zaidjilani i think that might be misguided, b/c pt. of a boycott is to pressure wrongdoing state. it requires mass support to work -
@EamonMurphy1@ZaidJilani I don't expect BDS to have any direct economic impact on Israel, any more than did on S. Africa–not the metric. -
@ChMadar did s. africa not really suffer appreciably? i don't know the history -
@EamonMurphy1 No one would argue that BDS did EVERYTHING in taking down apartheid, but it did play a significant supporting role. -
@ChMadar i'm just hung up on the difficulty of changing ppl's minds in US. BDS in my limited experience tends to reenforce their prejudices -
@EamonMurphy1 My experience: the Park Slope Coop#BDS drive forced conversations that otherwise wouldn't have happened–>ppl better informed. -
@ChMadar yeah i can see that happening. the ppl i'm thinking of might be hopeless cases, & not everyone needs to be convinced -
@EamonMurphy1 Yes–I agree completely. Not everyone in US was convinced about South Africa either btw. They can get bent.
