Then a more accurate phrasing would be “tech employees who want to voice racist, sexist and homophobic views worry that it might be bad for their careers” which is quite different from dramatic talk about fears for their “safety,” with its connotations of actual bodily harm
You are equating "conservative" with "racist, sexist and homophobic". That's the problem.
Unless your opinions fall into one of those categories, you won’t have a risk. No one gets fired for wanting to rein in deficit spending or privatize social security.
