Is it? We want to decriminalize & decarcerate - fewer people punished & punished less. Calling that tougher on crime seems doomed.

I don’t see the opposite of weak here as tough, or at least not “tougher on crime.” We need to be tougher and more resilient as a society, seeing risk without panic and tolerating appropriate risk, rather than over-punishing
-
I strongly agree w/ that sentiment. Aiming for zero tolerance brings tyranny and torture. But to get there you have to start somewhere else.
-
Because the opposite of weak on crime is tough on crime. It's a rhetorical trap.
-
That has been the binary opposition so far, absolutely ... but now we need to redefine what strong and weak mean... I’m reading aoc charitably here, as a way to nudge us towards a redefinition
-
I'm strongly w you in re redefining strong as society's ability to absorb & not freak. But start w their slogan & we seem like pettifoggers
-
Needs work, I’ll admit

Exactly. And the crazed denunciations from ultra leftists tell us all we need to know about why they will always lose, why they should be ignored, and why AOC is the best political development of my lifetime.
