Americans have too much respect for law, as if all law, any law, were handed down on Mount Sinai, violation of which licensed the harshest penalty. The long social revolution against American punitiveness entails the overthrow of this vindictive legal formalism.https://twitter.com/michmack01/status/1009788092490715141 …

When a citizen goes to prison for committing a crime they are separated from their kids. Illegal immigrants are breaking the law coming here. They broke the law and their kids can’t go to jail with them so they are separated. Wanna be with your kids? Don’t break the law. Simple.

Apart from Dr King’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail, what greatest hits of this Af-American anti-legalist tradition leap to mind?

There's such a range (legal scholarship, fiction, non-fiction, multitudes of genres and sub-genres). Folks to look out for: Ruthie Wilson Gilmore, Alexander Wehelieye, Simone Browne, Fred Moten, late W.E.B Dubois, James Baldwin, Octavia Butler, Angela Davis. (1/2)

If people always obeyed the law, nothing would ever change. America wouldn't even exist.

It is against no law whatever to seek refuge in this country. There is no law prohibiting that.

The only alternatives suggested so far are Judges Hercules and Rex. Mythological man and his dog against evil. I'm looking forward to your book, Heidi. And Judge Lawcivious.

What is law? The Supreme Court often decides laws based on the vote of a single justice, and how did the newest justice get there?
