How about a pardon for all who defied the Vietnam War draft by going to jail or moving to Canada? At my Quaker college 10 classmates went to jail rather than fight an illegal war. Hundreds ended up in Canada. I almost did, but was saved by high lottery numbers. Ali was our hero.

It left a lot of people out, including most of the guys who went to Canada. If you resisted once you were in the Army, no pardon either, and those were the working class kids. I met many of them when I was part of a support group for conscientious deserters.

Ugh. Then right, we definitely need a pardon for all of those brave people too!

Of course I could be wrong with some of my numbers. All I remember is a lot of guys who couldn't return from Canada and then following the long prison sentences (7+ years sometime) meted out to Vietnam/military deserters, through the national org for COs. It was a traumatic time.
