Obama suggested alleviating this & the GOP accuser him of being pro-criminal

Obama certainly had some crazypants enemies in the GOP. But that said, overall the Obama administration's clemency drive was slow, timid, tepid and mediocre. (Trump's will surely be worse.) We need industrial-scale clemency!
-
Yes, although it grew out of a very process-obsessed lawerliness, in the same way today's actions by Trump grow out of the opposite.
-
And alas Obama's rather constipated process was captured by DOJ prosecutors-- great article on this by NYU Law prof
@RachelBarkow whom you might have on-- https://its.law.nyu.edu/faculty/profiles/representiveFiles/Designed%20to%20Fail_%20The%20President_s%20Deference%20to%20the%20Department%20of_6FB1C009-1B21-6206-60A51F5735671595.pdf … -
Thanks,
@ChaseMadar! I’m sure I speak for both myself and@Oslerguy in saying we’d love to talk about the failings of the Obama process we analyze in our article w/@chrislhayes -

Sadly this POTUS would like to sentence nonviolent drug offenders to death. I'm not optimistic with this POS and his sidekick Sessions.
-
His clemency record will most likely be (even) worse than Obama's, yes. But it would be nice if he issued a ton of commutations and pardons just to mess with Sessions.

My clients, all in poverty, include three young men sentenced to die in prison for crimes committed as kids. I had one client who got 26 years of flat time - no early release - for a crime in which no one was hurt. REFORM IS NEEDED NOW.
-
What was the exact crime where “no one was hurt”? Thx.

I will continue to beat this drum..."non-violent" is a term that causes increased suffering for the folks left behind by reform categorized as "violent" by code...here is what
@WesternBruce concluded about how it is used in Boston..totally agree with the rest!!!pic.twitter.com/EF2K6wwYX3

Considering the left’s stance on firearms one would think you would want the “habitual firearms” offenders punished harshly.

I knew before I bother to find her picture Alice Marie Johnson was Black. Why? Because no White woman would have gotten LIFE for a first time, nonviolent drug offense. School me if the women imprisoned for life under this offense match proportion of w White/Black in the USA

last but not least, if you have read Locked In by
@JohnFPfaff you know Mass Incarceration cannot be solved without a more nuanced discussion about the problem of violence. I still want relief for all the folks in that report, I am just talking about language choices & strategyThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
