Nader Hashemi Retweeted Nikhil Pal Singh

Nader Hashemi added,
Not sure about that. It's run of the mill Chomskyan critique of humanitarianism. I'd take a liberal internationalist over a one nation socialist any day.
I'm in the middle of those extremes....
Also, I think the Samantha Power of 15 years ago was an indispensable engaged intellectual. She compromised herself only in the service of Obama. The western left of course hated her for her Bosnia activism.
15 years ago her book ignored genocides that the US was complicit in. She should be criticized for this & for her service to Obama's policies. As for the Western Left and genocide don't get me started....
There are solid, serious critiques of Power's book, like this one by Stephen Holmes--and there are bad faith critiques by people who defend(ed) the 'right' of mass murderers & war criminals like Milosevic to do as they please within their sovereign bordershttps://www.lrb.co.uk/v24/n22/stephen-holmes/looking-away …
Holmes—v clever fellow—was my professor at the time of that penetrating review essay’s publication. His view of the Kosovo war and a diplomatic alternative route not taken were an eye-opener, though I wonder what Nader makes of it today
Yes, the problem in Kosovo was the "diplomatic alternative route not taken" NOT Serbian ethno-fascism and it's destructive polices toward the Kosovars. Please.
Eh, that Serbian ethno-fascism was the big problem is hardly in doubt, not in this conversation anyway. But what to do about it? Curious of what you make of Holmes’ account.
