1/ I think Effective Altruism is one of the best things to happen to philanthropy in a long time. But I don’t think it’s how to do the most good.
Agree philanthropy would do more good if it was allocated better (that’s why I like EA). But EA is optimizing a tiny, relatively fixed pie. It’s like trying to reduce climate change by improving the efficiency of go-karts.

Your q about gov is interesting. I wonder if ppl have data on e.g. how much of improvements like increased life expectancy are due to gov vs biz vs nonprofits. Not sure how you’d know. But seems logical given size that govs impact many, many more people than nonprofits.

My interpretation of EA is that all it cares about is doing the most good per unit of money, time, effort and isn't wedded to NGO donations. If you can demonstrate that such resources are better spent on gov't and business, I think you can shift the EA crowd's attention there.
