Thoughts on building out a fundraising / development team to work the grant space? i.e. treating fundraising like enterprise sales.

can definitely help raise money, but you still have the same problem. the founder can't raise everything, she hires team to raise, the team gets bigger, and eventually entire org is fundraising even if they don't realize it, and the boulder crushes you.

w/ enterprise sales the person paying you (the enterprise) is the customer. so the more value you deliver, the easier sales gets. fundraising is the opposite. the more you focus on your mission, the harder raising is, bc you're in ugandan clinics, not pitching in NYC penthouses

Mmm. Really love that perspective. Do you think that any project that isn't self-sustaining where non-users are paying is screwed? (i.e. fail to accomplish mission)

it depends on your definition of success. if success is changing lives, i know some *incredible* nonprofits that are batting 1000. if success is "make a dent in the universe" then ya, if you're relying on donations, you're screwed (absent some major societal shift).
