hey programmers, here's a suggestion: in addition to not demanding premieres, you should also stop using the word 'premiere'
@tapestore want to see their film go where the premieres are. None of us like this and you know that.

@CharlotteCook Yes, yes, of course! I'm proposing a completely new world where all festivals (including and especially the six Bob cited)... -
@CharlotteCook ...stop talking about films as if they're perishable goods. Obviously not going to happen anytime soon, but I like to dream. -
@tapestore how am I talking about them as if they're perishable goods? -
@CharlotteCook The "world premiere" tag feels like a "fresh produce" sign. Too many festivals treat premiered films as if they're rotten. -
@CharlotteCook I know you don't. But others in this industry do.

@CharlotteCook@tapestore filmmakers would generally choose to go to as many fests that will take them (until they get old & tired, that is) -
@prewarcinema@tapestore but you want someone to pick up the film ideally no? -
@CharlotteCook@tapestore yes, most of the time that is a goal. But I think many filmmakers would choose to opt out of the current system. -
@CharlotteCook@tapestore I just get wary of the word "filmmakers" being applied generally in the same way that you bristle at "programmers" -
@prewarcinema@tapestore So it's wrong to assume the majority of filmmakers would like to sell their film? -
@CharlotteCook@tapestore not at all! But I'd say many believe that the current system limits possibilities rather than expands them. -
@prewarcinema@tapestore But that's more an education issue and filmmakers realising they have more power than they realise. -
@CharlotteCook@tapestore 100% agree, which is why this is worth discussing.

@CharlotteCook@tapestore filmmakers want to get their movie seen and they don't want to be broke and they want to make more movies, fwiw -
@prewarcinema@tapestore It's certainly what I want too.
