What I inferred was that he is opposed to a program that benefits the elite (students who just had to go to school X) when money may be better / more fairly spent on other programs and / or targeting state schools. Sounded right to me.

Yes. But rich kids don’t borrow for college, especially at Harvard. The evidence is overwhelming. Trying to target cancellation will just let people who need it fall through the cracks.

I think what he meant is there's a more immediate needs for early childhood education (kids of color are falling behind because public schools are closed). Student loans are not immediate needs!

Why not both? The fact that he could outright say I prioritize one over the other as if he isn’t allowed to address both issues and people just accept it. It’s extremely alarming and shows how much we allow these politicians to pretty much do nothing to earn our vote.

Is it possible that he meant Harvard *graduate students* as in Harvard MBA? Harvard Law? Harvard Public Policy? Maybe not since less federal student loans for grad programs? Idk enough about this space

Slow that roll bro. Cancelled loan debt is taxable. Legislation needed to mitigate that. $50,000 cancelled is ~$9,000 in tax liabilities.

Hey if I had $50k in student loan debt and that got magically transformed into only $9k I owed that would be great. Bring it on!
