    🧱The restoration of Charleston’s historic barns was completed in September 2018 and if you look closely, you can still find initials carved into the timber!

    A 1688 lease suggests that by the 17th c. Charleston was a substantial farmstead: ‘all that messuage farme commonly called Charleston … with all the barns stables buildings yards gardens orchards and arable lands meadows pastures seedings sheepe downes and pasture for sheepe.’

    🐄The house was originally part of a working farm, and dairy farming continued in the barns after leased Charleston in 1916. 📖The history of the farmhouse and surrounding countryside goes back to the Domesday Book (1086), when a farm was first recorded on the site.
