  1. “Thank you for unapologetically presenting yourself as both a human and chemist. It makes me believe that I can do science.” This post-seminar undergraduate student comment has really given me a lot to think about.

On my way to visit with to engage with their community! Haven’t been to SJU since my undergrad student-athlete days. They welcomed our lacrosse team to use their turf when fields were too snowy. Ah, brings back memories of 5am practice + sprints...

.'s role in pushing glycoscience forward is undeniable, but peers are quick to stress the broader impact of the scientists she’s trained. As her life gets busier, she remains dedicated to raising new generations of glyco evangelists.

Huge congratulations to Lindsay V Reckson on publishing her beauty of a book! Very lucky to call this brilliant scholar, innovative teacher, and dedicated mentor my “parenting on the tenure-track” teammate and dear friend.

: Does your institution have dependent/childcare research travel support/policies in place? (see link below for an example) I'm especially interested in learning what institutions are doing, but also more broadly about other models.

Some of my colleagues are so supportive that they literally cheer for me when they see me running between classes on a busy day. And I have to say, it makes a difference. for this community!

...and I’m the one searching everywhere to find it because I feel so motivated to practice + master. When I make mistakes he says “pause Mama, I see a learning opportunity” When I got frustrated one time he said “you don’t need to be a genius, but it does take hard work" 2/2

I have now experienced the “instructor's mindset influences student motivation” phenomenon first-hand. My kid has been teaching me how to solve a rubik's cube and his growth mindset is contagious. This morning we couldn't find the rubiks cube... 1/2

Our path forward is to co-create a divide-and-conquer plan, learn biochemistry concepts and techniques along the way, and work together as a team to gather new knowledge. I love teaching course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs). (2/2)

It’s Biochemistry Superlab Eve at Haverford and I’m giddy with anticipation. 19 students, 2 TAs, 2 co-instructors, 1 central biochemical question waiting to be tackled, 14 weeks… and 0 plans to engineer the failure out of this lab course. (1/2)

Excited to be at to engage alongside their community with three of my favorite things: in chemistry, 's work to help students learn from failure experiences and unexpected results in STEM, and, of course, breakfast tacos.

Wow, this turned into a powerful repository of stories for how a grade need not define who you are or what you do. Sending much gratitude to those who shared their vulnerable moments (here and elsewhere!) to help others place grade-related challenges into broader context. 🙏

Stories from those in health professions are particularly welcome given that many students in my class are pre-health. (I have my own stories of overcoming failure in Orgo that I openly share, but something tells me that my students might be targeting other careers...). (2/2)

Anyone willing to share how a disappointing grade in organic chemistry can exist on a path to success? Whether that be via perseverance towards original goal or a fruitful pivot? Getting ready to submit grades and want some stories in my back pocket to call up if needed (1/2)
