Is that where you do a bisection algorithm on the RAM of a running program until you isolate the memory location(s) that gives you the program behavior you desire?

I've been thinking about this same idea -- I've seen reverse engineers spend 100x the time they should solving certain problems. "Scan for address => find what writes to" is such a powerful and quick method of finding important subroutines, even outside of games
