what use is a firearm in a shoplifting without the threat of killing the shoplifter with it? Like, what exactly is it about an armed cashier or whoever that make a shop a harder target if not the threat of killing whoever steals some shit?

The firearm ensures you will not face resistance from the criminal. Its usually quite effective, which is why the woke thieves want it taken away.

Well to your simple mind that's what you would conclude. But to people who understand the written English language, the firearm ensures that the criminal does not escape his day in Court. If he complies with being arrested, he will face only the verdict of that Court.

what happens if they don't comply my man? what happens if they simply walk away? The presence of a firearm is always the implicit threat of murder, you can't get around that.

Well that's the risk a person takes if they decide to first commit a crime and then resist arrest for the crime. The law cannot be enforced without severe consequences if it is not followed, or else no one will follow it, and there will be social chaos that results in violence.

Question for you : if you find me stealing your car and you don't have the physical ability to stop me but you have a weapon, should you use the weapon to stop me or should you let me steal your car ?

I'm sorry to hear you don't think a life is worth more than a car. Turn that question around: if you needed a car, and I offered you one if you killed someone, would you do it? Or would you value a life higher than a car?

The principle of self defense says you can defend your property by whatever means necessary. And no, I would not kill fora car, because crime can never be allowed to pay. Unless its a Lambo of course...

If you think about all the ramifications of denying people the right to defend their property by all means, you soon realize the illogic of such a policy. Where doyou draw theline ? How can you be sure that the criminal is not going to harm you while committing a theft?

It just gets too ridiculous. Much simpler and enforceable - and a deterrent against crime - to have a policy that says a person is allowed to defend their property by all means, and attempts to escape arrest can be met with any force necessary to subdue the alleged criminal.
