I spent ~50% of my time being a teacher assistant helping my 5 year old learn to read and write. It SUCKED, that was a very very hard year. I'm blessed to have a good job and an employer who was very accommodating/understanding.
With the stagnation of wages and a whole system only designed for one working parent (when 2 are needed) and expecting the other to fill in, our entire school system (short classes, have to sign up for 'after school care') is in dire need of an update/upgrade.
What a giant hole in our infrastructure as a country to not have federal childcare support.
