Like... this person almost missed out on a really meaningful and fun experience for them because of reviews and that makes me so sad? What a loss that would've been for him, you know?
I wish reviewers would answer the question, "Who is this game for?" and recognize that there is a infinite # of 'gamer' profiles who all like different things. Unfortunately I've seen so many reviewers act like immature frat kids who if 'they' don't like it personally they pan it
The end result feels like a form of gate keeping, if a developer does not make a game for 'me' (a game reviewer) then I'm going to trash it so no more games like this are made. Instead of trying to help it find an audience. Which just makes me sad.
