About to run Tomb of Annihilation (eventually?). But I have had a similar experience in my Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign. The survival angle quickly became less of a focus after about 4 sessions. Not sure if I started to care less or if I picked up that vibe from my players.

Mine was an planned intentional tone shift. I wanted this new place, this jungle to be hard. For the Jungle to be the enemy at first. Then, as they learn what to do and how to survive, it becomes almost second nature and not a big deal.
