UPDATE on my situation: First of all, I cannot thank all of you enough for the outpouring of kindness and goodwill I’ve received over the last day or so. I am absolutely humbled by it. You have all heartened my family and me immensely. 1/5

Second, some positive news. My wonderful and amazing wife insisted on getting a second opinion, so we visited another retina specialist. Same diagnosis, but he offered to do a different procedure to repair my eye. 2/5

This surgery evidently will be more intrusive in the short term - I’ll have to be knocked out for it and he says it will be more “uncomfortable” - but promises to reduce the risk of another detachment in the future. 3/5
